SPORTS INJURY TREATMENT AND MASSAGE

Are you looking for sports massage in Borough, London Bridge, Elephant and Castle?

Using a variety of massage techniques, including deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy, sports massage can alleviate the stresses and strains that build up in your muscles from the physical demands placed on your body during sport, work, or poor posture.

Lorna is one of the few osteopaths within her cohort at the University College of Osteopathy (formerly known as the British School of Osteopathy) to be awarded a Distinction for her Integrated Masters of Osteopathy degree. She has an ITEC level III diploma in Sports Massage Therapy and is a Myofascial Release practitioner.

Due to my in-depth anatomy and physiology training, I can make sure that treatment is specific to you and your individual needs. Often patients are unsure whether they would benefit more from a deep tissue massage or from an osteopathic treatment – I can ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatment for you.

Whether you are hoping to prevent injuries or just have a relaxing hour for yourself, everyone can benefit from sports massage treatment.

How does massage help with sporting injuries?

Massage therapy is highly beneficial for treating and preventing sporting injuries through several key mechanisms:
  1. Pain Relief and Inflammation Reduction: It alleviates pain and decreases inflammation by promoting blood flow and lymphatic drainage, while also releasing endorphins.
  2. Improved Circulation: Deep tissue manipulation enhances blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissues, which accelerates healing.
  3. Muscle Tension Release: Massage helps relax tight muscles and break down adhesions, improving flexibility and range of motion, thereby reducing the risk of further injury.
  4. Scar Tissue Breakdown: It aids in breaking down scar tissue formed after injuries, facilitating recovery.
  5. Injury Prevention: Regular massage can identify areas of tension or weakness before they lead to injuries, enhancing muscle flexibility and joint mobility.
  6. Enhanced Recovery: Post-event massage helps eliminate metabolic waste products, reducing muscle soreness and speeding up recovery.
  7. Performance Improvement: By addressing muscle imbalances and improving overall function, sports massage can enhance athletic performance.
Overall, sports massage is an essential component of many athletes' training and recovery programs, addressing pain management, circulation, muscle function, and injury prevention.

How can an Osteopath Help with Sports Injuries?

Osteopathy offers a comprehensive approach to treating sports injuries, focusing not just on symptom relief but on addressing the root causes of injuries and optimizing overall physical function. This makes it an valuable resource for athletes at all levels, from weekend warriors to professional competitors.

OSTEOPATH Treatment Approaches

Treatment ApproachesManual Therapy
  • Osteopaths use hands-on techniques like soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, and stretching to treat injured areas.
  • These methods can help reduce pain, decrease swelling, and improve range of motion in the affected joints and muscles.
Holistic Assessment
  • Osteopaths take a whole-body approach, looking beyond just the injured area to identify underlying causes or contributing factors.
  • For example, a knee injury may be related to issues in the hip or ankle, which an osteopath would address as part of the treatment.
Rehabilitation Exercises
  • Osteopaths prescribe specific exercises to rebuild strength, flexibility, and function in the injured area.
  • These tailored exercise programs help prevent future injuries and improve overall performance.

Benefits of Osteopathic Treatment

Pain Relief Without Medication
  • Osteopathic treatment offers non-invasive pain relief, which is particularly beneficial for athletes who need to avoid certain medications.
Improved Recovery Time
  • By promoting better blood flow and reducing inflammation, osteopathic techniques can speed up the healing process.
Performance Enhancement
  • Osteopaths can help improve an athlete's overall biomechanics, potentially enhancing their performance and reducing the risk of future injuries.
Preventive Care
  • Regular osteopathic check-ups can help identify and address potential issues before they become serious injuries.
Specific Techniques
  • Kinesio Taping: Some osteopaths use this technique to support injured areas while allowing for movement.
  • Dry Needling: This can be used to release tight muscles and trigger points.
  • Joint Manipulation: To improve mobility and reduce pain in restricted joints
